CPECC Demineralisations Water Package

The Challenge

In one of the Middle East’s largest oil fields, operators required a reliable source of ultrapure demineralized water to support critical sour gas treatment processes. The existing setup struggled to consistently meet strict purity standards, creating risks of downtime and higher operational costs. The harsh site conditions including variable feedwater quality and extreme climate added further pressure on reliability. The client needed a compact, efficient solution that could be deployed quickly without the delays of traditional civil-based construction.

GWT Solution

GWT engineered and delivered a comprehensive, containerized demineralization water package tailored to the oilfield’s unique operating environment. The system was designed not only to produce ultrapure water, but also to do so with reliability, efficiency, and adaptability in mind.

At the core of the solution was a two-stage reverse osmosis system, supported by robust pre-treatment and chemical dosing to protect membranes against fouling, scaling, and chlorine damage. This design ensured consistently high recovery rates while lowering overall water wastage — a crucial factor in arid environments where every drop counts.

To achieve the ultrapure quality required for sour gas treatment, the RO system was paired with advanced electrodeionization (EDI) technology. Unlike conventional mixed-bed demineralizers, the EDI process eliminates the need for chemical regeneration, providing continuous production of water with conductivity below 0.2 µS/cm. This innovation not only enhanced operational reliability but also aligned with the client’s sustainability goals by reducing chemical handling and waste.

The entire system was delivered in a containerized, modular format, pre-assembled within two high-cube containers. This approach minimized the need for extensive on-site civil works, shortened the construction timeline, and allowed for rapid deployment in a remote oilfield setting. Each container was internally equipped with marine-grade coatings, waterproof flooring, and environmental controls to ensure the equipment’s long-term durability under extreme conditions.

By combining proven water treatment technologies with modular execution, GWT provided the client with a future-ready asset that integrates seamlessly into existing operations while offering flexibility for expansion or adaptation in the years ahead.

Scope of Work

GWT undertook the full responsibility of delivering a turnkey demineralization package from design to commissioning ensuring seamless integration into the client’s operations. The scope covered:

  • Engineering & Design: Detailed assessment of site conditions and customization of the treatment process to meet ultrapure water requirements.
  • Pre-Treatment & RO Systems: Dual-stage filtration, chemical dosing, and high-rejection RO membranes configured for efficiency and durability.
  • Ultrapure Polishing: Integration of electrodeionization (EDI) units to achieve industry-leading water quality without chemical regeneration.
  • Containerized Execution: Pre-assembled modular containers equipped with climate control and protective finishes for rapid deployment and long-term reliability.
  • Commissioning & Support: On-site integration, performance validation, and training to ensure smooth operation from day one

Our Approach

Our strategy combined modular design with process optimization. By pre-assembling the package into two 40-ft high-cube containers, we ensured shorter project timelines and reduced site disruption. All critical materials and finishes were selected for durability in challenging oilfield environments, including marine-grade coatings and climate-controlled housing for long-term reliability.

Key Benefits

  • Operational Reliability: Stable ultrapure water supply ensured safe and efficient gas treatment operations.
  • Sustainability: Reduced water wastage through optimized recovery and minimized chemical use.
  • Rapid Deployment: Containerized, pre-assembled solution enabled faster commissioning.
  • Future-Ready: Modular design allows scalability and integration with other process units.
