Sharjah Municipality faced increasing irrigation demand in Al Qarayen. The existing treated sewage effluent (TSE) pumping station and reservoir could no longer handle peak loads or future expansion needs. At the same time, the system had to remain operational during the upgrade, meaning any downtime had to be minimal.

Gulf Water Treatment was entrusted with designing and executing a comprehensive upgrade to modernize the pumping station and construct a new TSE reservoir.
The upgraded station was designed to deliver a daily capacity of 60,000 m³, integrating advanced pumping, electrical, and automation systems. Four high-capacity pumps were installed in a duty/assist/standby configuration, ensuring resilience while allowing efficient operation under variable demand.
A new compressor-type surge vessel was introduced to protect the network against pressure shocks, and the station’s electrical and automation backbone was completely renewed. A modern MCC and PLC system was constructed to meet utility requirements, equipped with UPS backup and integrated into Sharjah’s central SCADA network for real-time monitoring and remote control.
Civil works were carefully planned to avoid prolonged service interruptions, with temporary bypass arrangements and phased construction. This included new foundations, selective reservoir modifications, and dedicated transformer and MCC rooms. The project strengthened connectivity to Sharjah’s irrigation network through integration of existing and new pipelines, providing a flexible backbone for future expansion.
The project involved a complete upgrade of the Al Qarayen TSE pumping station, combining civil enhancements, mechanical upgrades, and electrical & automation modernization to deliver a reliable, future-ready system.

Our approach was built on balancing technical excellence with operational continuity. We prioritized minimizing disruption to Sharjah’s irrigation network while delivering a system that is robust, efficient, and scalable. By combining careful planning, close coordination with municipal authorities, and advanced engineering solutions, the project was completed to international standards—strengthening the reliability of Sharjah’s TSE infrastructure for years to come.
