The Challenge

Pioneer Oil & Gas required a reliable wastewater treatment solution to manage the demanding conditions of its operations in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The facility needed to treat large volumes of wastewater consistently, meeting strict regulatory discharge standards while minimizing downtime. GWT Solution

Gulf Water Treatment (GWT) designed, supplied, and commissioned a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant built on Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology, with a treatment capacity of 2 × 1000 m³/day. The system was developed as a turnkey package, covering every stage from engineering to live operation. Commissioning was achieved within the agreed timeframe, allowing Pioneer Oil & Gas to initiate safe wastewater processing without operational disruption.

A key focus of the solution was sustainability and reliability. GWT optimized the treatment process to minimize sludge generation and reduce chemical use, lowering the environmental footprint while cutting down recurring costs. The plant was built with design resilience in mind, capable of handling variable hydraulic and organic loads that are typical in oil and gas facilities.

To safeguard long-term performance, GWT established a tailored Operation & Maintenance program, which includes preventive maintenance, on-demand technical support, and continuous process optimization. This ensures the system consistently operates at peak efficiency while meeting all regulatory standards.

Scope of Work

The scope of work for this project extended far beyond equipment supply. GWT took full responsibility for delivering a complete solution—from design and engineering through to commissioning and post-handover support. This end-to-end approach ensured the client received a seamless and reliable system that was immediately ready for operation.
